Dr. Mudd House and ghosts

I caught the episode of Ghost Hunters last night on the SyFy channel exploring whether the Dr. Samuel House in Waldorf, Md. has ghosts.

I live about five minutes from the home, which for the truly history-challenged among you is where John Wilkes Booth was treated for his broken leg after assassinating Abraham Lincoln. I happen to be related to both Booth and co-conspirator Mary Surratt so I’ve always followed the story and visited the home, which is still in its original shape. It’s open on weekends much of the year and worth a drive. I met Mudd’s grandaughter who was born there before she passed away years ago and grew up with Mudd family. What can I say — this is Southern Maryland, we all know each other.

For the most part, the show seemed like a bunch of hooey. But, there was an infrared heat image of an adult walking right by the guy outside in the dark. Sure, they could have faked it, but it sure seemed real. Like a ghost just passed by. That was creepy.

That sounds really creepy! I’d like to go back there sometime to explore when they’re not in the middle of Christmas celebrations — though those are nice, too.

Like others, I watched the show and found it interesting, the best part was outside. I am a docent with the Dr. Mudd home, and things do happen there. Most of us have had things happen to us, any thing from our dresses and hands being tugged on, to shot guns being fired off and no one around. I’m a believer…

I love the show, but the image outside was faked. First if you go frame to frame you will find one image that lets you see it’s Chris Williams, their assistant. Second their excitement is too muted for such a great capture. Third, the person goes in front of the camera slow enough but they don’t follow it at all, like they have done in past shows.
All that being said, I be willing to bet they have to “punch up” some of the materials in order to keep it exciting to the viewer. The audio captures are awesome.
