The Big Unit deserved better

Washington baseball hit a new low during a doubleheader loss to San Francisco on Thursday. There were maybe 1,000 people in the stands (and I doubt that) for Randy Johnson’s 300th career win. Johnson threw a great game and Washingtonians were poorer for missing it even if it was a cool, rainy day.

The box score for the first game didn’t give an attendance, but the second game said 16,787. The Nats have about 12,000 season-ticket holders so they might claim 4,700 tickets were also sold for the games. Maybe they were, but those people didn’t come. See my photo below of the third base line, which had more people than the first base line and tell me you think 16,787 people were there. If you do, I have waterfront property in Florida that’s perfect for you.

My Washington Examiner column has Johnson saying he only has 211 more wins to catch Cy Young.

Empty seats for milestone game
