John Riggins’ return line has always been my motto. I can only take a few days at the beach, but it was better than working. If you’ve never been to the Outer Banks and you’re older than 35, consider it over Ocean City. The Maryland beach is for the younger set. North Carolina is more family-oriented. It doesn’t have a boardwalk, but you can drive on the beach in some places, see wild horses and eat more barbecue than the rest of the year combined. My favorite — Pigman’s around mile marker 9.
So what’s happening around town upon my return? The Boston Red Sox come to town on Tuesday so for three days Nationals Park will be packed with visiting fans. At least the Nats have a pulse and I see Manny Acta’s still here.
Tiger Wood’s golf tournament starts in 10 days. I’m not a big golf guy, but this is a great event at a reasonable price on the beautiful Congressional Country Club. If it’s not raining — what are the odds of that lately? — spend a day out there to see the best.
The NBA draft is Thursday. My guess — the Wizards trade the pick if they can. If not, check by Thursday for my pick. The NHL draft is coming, too.
Still, we all know everyone is just waiting for the July 30 start of Redskins training camp.
For now, I gotta cut the grass, pick up the mail, get some groceries, unpack my bags and join a conference call — who said I’m bored?
